The Father Draws

  • Why did the disciples follow Jesus without question?  Were they simply curious about fishing for men, looking for a better source of income, popularity?  How much did they know about Jesus?
  • What does an older woman bitter about life have to offer? Why did Naomi return to her homeland? Why did Ruth go with Naomi knowing Naomi had nothing to offer?
  • Why was Lydia, a successful business woman, down by the river? Was she bathing, washing her own clothing, hanging out and socializing with the other women, gathering with them in prayer?

We have to remember that the people we read about in the Bible aren’t just characters in a story.  They and their life circumstances are as real as ours.  They and their lives were left to us to learn how our God cares, intervenes and engages in even our daily affairs and always for our good.  Then and now He draws us to Himself and to service for others.  Jesus Himself said “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him (John 6:44a, NKJV) and Jesus made the purpose for coming clear.  "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
